The Lone Star Engine was built to carry stone from Granite Mountain to the new state capitol built in 1888.

Our mission is to provide funding for preservation and educate our community about Leander’s rich history.

Leander’s past includes Mesozoic dinosaur footprints left in the San Gabriel River, a 10,000 year old woman buried near Brushy Creek, and some of the earliest endeavors by the Texas Rangers.
